Isle of Wight - Freshwater Bay & Brook Bay

After we left Allum Bay, we drove to Freshwater Bay and stopped at The Piano Cafe for Tea/Coffee and Cake.  A very tasty piece of cake it was as well.

Just down the road from the cafe is this lovely thatched St Agnes' Church.  This church is the only thatched church on the Isle of Wight.  It was built after Lord Tennyson's son donated land on which to have the church built and has been there for more than 100 years.

After our enjoyable cake and drink we headed towards Brook Bay, stopping off on the way to take in some of the sights.

Arriving at Brook Bay, we headed down to the beach with the dogs.

On this beach there can be found evidence of fossilised dinosaur footprints and other fossils and apparently also the remains of a petrified forest, although we didn't find it.

Again the rich earthy orange colours of the surrounding cliffs were astounding.  Especially when  in contrast with the clear blue sky.

The dogs enjoyed running and playing on the beach.

We enjoyed watching the sun set again - I don't think we could ever tire of this.

A lovely thatched cottage on the opposite side of the estuary where we walked down to the bay.

  2. Not being able to recall seeing a thatched church before I looked them up only to discover there are over a hundred of them but mostly in Norfolk and Suffolk which are the two counties of the UK that I have visited least. Your last photo really is of what I might call a thatched cottage (though quite a large one) but it reminded me that your first I o W blog started with a thatched 'cottage' which was really quite a splendid dwelling.
